Last summer, I took two simple steps. After reading that about 25 of our household electric bills are from lighting, I did some math. I looked up those Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs, that produce 75 watts of light with an 11 watt bulb. I found the bulbs on sale at Home Depot.
I bought 100 of those light bulbs for about $50. I changed every light in my house. EVERY light. Even the recessed lighting.
9 months later, I am averaging just under $100 a month in electricity savings.
I don’t care if the bulbs look a little funny. They put out enough light, and it’s $100 I can do something with. Every month.
