** Prior to 4/2016, this course was known as AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.

BLS  is a 4.5 hour course, covering CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants, Choking, and all other information in the American Heart Association BLS Curriculum. The intended audience is healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physicians assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel. Those who successfully complete this course will receive an American Heart Association BLS Card, valid for two years.

We offer frequent CPR and BLS Classes throughout Northern and Central Virginia, including Richmond, Hampton Roads, Sterling, Leesburg, Loudoun and Fairfax.

BLS HeartCode (Blended Learning Option/Online Course)

Don’t have time to spend 4 hours in class? Consider our Blended Learning Option. Complete the first portion of the course on any device with internet access (and a printer…. this is important, as you must be able to print out the certificate at the end). Then, bring your certificate to us for a Skills Check, which usually takes about an hour.

To complete BLS HeartCode, there are two options:

Option 1: Register for  a scheduled BLS HeartCode Session (click for prices and schedule) COMING SOON!

Option 2: Individual Appointments

If you choose Option 2, you would need to complete all of the following steps:

  1. Purchase and complete the online course from the American Heart Association Online website.  For BLS, you will select  HeartCode® BLS Part 1.
  2. Complete the online course, and print out the certificate of completion.
  3. Make an appointment to complete a skills check in our Loudoun County training center. Payment is due at the time the appointment is booked, and you may view and book our real-time availability instantly.
  4. Bring your certificate to the appointment, complete your practice session and your practicals (your skills check), and your certification is complete.

Class Notes:

All regular participants should expect to receive an e-Certification Card. This is an electronic version of the traditional “paper” card, and carries the same weight and validity.  Your e-Card is typically issued within 24 hours of class, and will save you from waiting for the card to arrive in the mail, and provide an easy means of replacing your card, should you lose it.

If you wish to have a traditional Paper Card, instead of an e-Card, it may be available for an additional cost. Approximate processing time by the Training Center results in an average wait of 2-4 business days after class, for cards to be received. For immediate evidence of completion, any student may request a Course Completion Record (a letter, signed by your instructor) for immediate needs.

For our classroom sessions, you MUST have the current AHA BLS Class Textbook in class. You may purchase the book from us during registration, or you may acquire it through your own means. If you purchase the book through us, you may request to have it shipped to you before class (at an additional cost) or you may pick it up in our office before class (please contact us to make sure we are there), or at class. There is NO requirement that you complete any pre-class assignment, and most students just pick up the book when they arrive in class, but the choice is yours. The textbook is NOT required for those completing the online course.

The current book was published in 2021, and follows the 2020 AHA Guidelines.
