What I Learned From The Super Bowl

They’re only thoughts, but at least they’re my own:

1) I saw one of the Green Bay Packers with tears during the National Anthem. In that brief moment, before Christina Aguilera botched our nation’s theme, I realized what those tears REALLY meant. Made me tear up, too.

2) Is it just me, or is the quality of Super Bowl Commercials no longer keeping up with the price of the air time?

3) I found it annoying and unnecessary that, after a touchdown, there was some guy with a camera who was running onto the field to get a close up of the player that just scored. Really? Did security take away his zoom lens and his bottled water?

4) 400 tickets fans were refused seats to the game. Nice one, Jerry. Really? You had HOW long since the Cowboys were eliminated to get all of the extra seats set up? At the end of the day, though, those fans got a pretty decent deal: Triple the face value of their tickets in cash (almost what they paid for their tickets, no doubt), a field pass after the game, stadning room admission to this year’s game (who really sits during the game anyways?), and they are the NFL’s guest at NEXT year’s game.

5) I think we need to go back to having a simple marching band for halftime.

6) How many years will it be until the OUTDOOR cold weather game in New York? You know, I’m all for spreading around to different cities and all, but I’m relatively certain that the cold weather game will feature, oh, say Tampa Bay and San Diego….. or two teams that are not built for cold weather, and the game will be affected. Hasn’t New York had about 6 feet of snow this year?

7) Having never been to the Big Game, I wonder how much they got for a beer.

8) I have a new idea for the NFL Playoffs: What if all of the coaches and sports writers VOTED on who the two best teams are, and we just let them play, and eliminate the playoffs? Oh wait…..

9) Has anybody noticed that 3 out of the last 4 Super Bowl Most Valuable Players have been Quarterbacks? Seems like that sends the wrong message, and is more than a coincidence. I mean, Rodgers (and Brees and Manning and Manning in years past) had a very good day, but 25 of 45 MVPs are QBs. Isn’t it just easier to measure?

10) I wonder if there will be an NFL season next year…….
